ABOUT

For Dream Studio, Davines Hair Show 2013 was not just a showcase for new hair trends, but an experiment in bringing the art of hairstyling into the performance space of contemporary theater. With the theme “Happiness”, the show was developed as an emotional journey where hair, fashion, music, and movement all told a unified story about sustainable beauty.

Inspired by the retro spirit of the 1930s and 1940s, Dream Studio transformed the entire performance space into a slice of classic Europe. Instead of a technical hair show stage, the auditorium was turned into a nostalgic world featuring street corners, plazas, and architectural spaces imbued with a classic atmosphere, allowing each hair collection to appear as part of the setting rather than as isolated acts.

The project’s unique approach lay in how it directed the models. Rather than just walking the runway, all models were required to become true performance artists. Before each show, Dream Studio organized meditation sessions to help the models control their emotions, maintain a calm state, and create a profound presence on stage. The catwalk paths were also designed as the movements of characters in a story, rather than traditional fashion runway routes.

Music served as another vital layer of storytelling. The jazz melodies of artist Tran Manh Tuan and the Saigon Big Band engaged in a dialogue with electronic music from DJs, creating an intersection between the past and the present, between classic materials and contemporary vibes. This very contrast reflected Davines' creative philosophy: respecting traditional values while always looking toward the future.

The three hair collections by Hoang Minh Tam, Vuong Trong Khoi, and Don Hau, combined with fashion designs by Kelly Bui and Devon Nguyen, were connected into a unified stage structure rather than three independent segments. Each collection possessed its own visual language, lighting, and rhythm, yet all converged on the theme of “Happiness” — the core value Davines has pursued throughout its brand development.

For Dream Studio, Davines Hair Show 2013 stands as a testament to the ability to connect multiple art forms within a single stage experience. The show did not just introduce hair trends; it expanded the concept of a hair show in Vietnam, where the art of hairstyling is placed in a harmonious relationship with fashion, music, theater, and the audience's emotions.
