WECHOICE AWARDS 2018

Going beyond the framework of a conventional award ceremony, WeChoice Awards 2018 was created as a space honoring inspiring people and stories, where art reflects the issues of the era, evokes empathy, and spreads positive humane values. Accompanying the program, Dream Studio positioned the core difference of WeChoice not in an entertainment or music stage dependent on the attraction of stars, but in the ability to artistically elevate compelling real-life stories, human figures, and cultural events through creative expressive languages, creating an award ceremony with its own identity.

That spirit was realized through the combination of performance art, visual language, and moving stories. Opening the Gala, the performance “#CTDLCGV” (What are we doing)” with the participation of 100 actors recreated the hustle and bustle, along with the paradoxes of the digital era using contemporary theatrical language. However, the moment leaving the deepest mark in the performance night was the story of little Hai An, the little angel who donated her organs to give second-life opportunities to many others. Her journey was conveyed through a nearly 10-minute solo contemporary dance, illuminated by projected original text messages exchanged between Hai An and her mother, Ms. Thuy Duong, during her lifetime, interwoven with continuing memories after her passing. . The minimalism in the performance format further highlighted the sacred maternal love and the little girl's compassion, creating the most emotional and memorable moment of WeChoice Awards 2018.

Following the highlight performances, Dream Studio exploited the intersection between traditional and contemporary through a mashup of Cai Luong (Vietnamese folk opera) and movie soundtracks. The “Lý Bông Dừa” excerpt in the movie “Song Lang”, performed by the artist duo Tu Uyen and Vo Hoang Long, was connected with “Ngày chưa giông bão” by Bui Lan Huong in “The Immortal”, creating a seamless and emotional musical structure. Not only showing a distinctive stage staging mindset, the performance also demonstrated music editing capabilities by combining two nominated soundtrack songs into a unified performance experience. The blend of traditional art materials, contemporary music, and performance technology expanded the storytelling capabilities of the stage, while simultaneously creating multiple emotional layers for the audience.

WeChoice Awards 2018 was a space for Dream Studio to use performance art in connecting the public with social issues. Through each story and each stage experience, Dream Studio spread the humanistic spirit, inspiring compassion, sharing, and the good things that are always present in life.
