MEMORIAL CEREMONY FOR VICTIMS OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Unlike previous projects, this was the first time Dream Studio received a special assignment from the National Traffic Safety Committee. With the message “Remember the departed - For the sake of the living”, the program was created as a community memorial space, where art became a medium to touch emotions, awaken awareness, and spread consciousness about traffic safety, rather than directly illustrating loss and grief.

Dream Studio developed the entire program as a musical theatrical journey, guided through four stories inspired by true events. These slices of human fate were connected by documentary footage, music, and theatrical silences, bringing the audience face-to-face with the consequences of traffic accidents from the perspective of those left behind, rather than just looking at statistics.

The hauntingly powerful highlight of the program was a choir performance, where the performers stood interspersed with life-sized joss paper effigies. The contrast between the living and the effigies created a striking visual image, conveying a profound message: Every reckless act in traffic could one day put us or our loved ones in the place of those very effigies.

The performance space was maximally restrained, avoiding any direct illustration of tragedy. Instead, lighting, acting, music, and narrative pacing were used as the primary means of expression. This approach created a powerful emotional resonance while maintaining solemnity and respect for the victims’ families.

The conclusion of the program was a memorial and prayer ceremony for the victims, combined with a message delivered by Government leaders, calling on the whole of society to raise awareness of traffic law compliance and to take action to minimize the irreparable losses caused by traffic accidents.

For Dream Studio, alongside the 3500 Lives project, the 2014 Memorial Ceremony for Victims of Traffic Accidents was not only a community communication campaign but also an artwork carrying the mission of raising awareness and elevating social consciousness. Through theatrical language, the program transformed seemingly dry messages into highly emotional experiences, powerful enough to move the public and linger in their memories.
