ABOUT

Earth Hour 2017 was held at August Revolution Square (Hanoi) as the key event of the campaign to raise community awareness about energy saving and environmental protection. With the theme “Turn off the lights, Turn on the future”, Dream Studio developed the program into a community art experience, where the stage not only conveyed the message but also directly illustrated a sustainable lifestyle.

The entire program was created as a continuous journey, combining music, exchanges, art performances, and the Earth Hour symbolic lights-out ceremony. The climax occurred when thousands of people simultaneously turned off the lights, turning the square into a symbol of consensus for the environment and affirming that small actions today can create big changes in the future.

The highlight of the program was the 60+ symbol in the middle of the stage, representing the spirit of the global campaign. The number “60” evoked the 60 minutes of lights-out action, while the “+” sign expanded the message beyond one hour of response, calling on everyone to maintain energy-saving habits across all 365 days of the year. The significance of Earth Hour therefore did not lie in the kilowatt-hours saved in 60 minutes, but in the change in the public awareness and attitude towards the environmental issues that the planet is facing.

To realize that message, Dream Studio operated the entire electrical system serving the stage using solar energy, while simultaneously using energy-saving LED devices. Even when the entire square was immersed in darkness in response to the campaign, the 60+ symbol continued to shine thanks to the electricity generated from the solar panels. This highly symbolic detail showed that through conscious energy conservation and the smart utilization of renewable resources, humans can still maintain light in a more sustainable way.

For Dream Studio, Earth Hour 2017 was more than a community program; it was a testament to the ability to combine performance art and social values. Through theatrical language, technology, and spatial experience, the campaign contributed to turning an environmental message into a visual experience, inspiring green living for the community.
