ABOUT

Taking place under the theme “Cinema - Integration and Sustainable Development”, the 3rd Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) gathered over 1,000 international delegates, guests, and filmmakers from across the globe. For Dream Studio, this was not just an opening and closing ceremony, but an opportunity to forge the image of Vietnamese cinema within an event of international stature.

Instead of choosing a highly ceremonial staging approach, Dream Studio developed the program as a storytelling journey using theatrical language, where Vietnamese cultural identity became the starting point for a dialogue with global cinema. The image of the mythical Lạc bird, the official symbol of HANIFF, was used throughout the project as a metaphor for the origins, creative aspirations, and integration spirit of Vietnamese cinema.

The artistic performances were built in a minimalist yet highly symbolic direction. The “Ngắm Trăng (Moon Gazing)” dance by artist Linh Nga and the choir performance of “Việt Nam quê hương tôi (Vietnam, My Homeland)” opened a space deeply imbued with national identity, while the stage, lighting, and visual systems were designed with a contemporary spirit to create a solemn, modern entirety suitable for the nature of an international film festival.

Throughout the five days of the event, HANIFF 2014 introduced over 130 films from 33 countries, and simultaneously organized the “Film Project Market” and “Young Filmmakers Campus” for the first time, expanding the festival's role from a screening event to a forum for connection, cooperation, and development of regional cinema.

Through the project, Dream Studio continued to pursue the creation of cultural events capable of promoting the image of Vietnam through international-standard production execution, creating spaces for dialogue between tradition, creativity, and integration.
