QUA TANG THOI GIAN (THE GIFT OF TIME) NO. 2

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day, “Qua Tang Thoi Gian No. 2 - Vietnam My Homeland” was developed by Dream Studio as a musical narrative journey. Instead of recreating victories or familiar historical symbols, the program chose a different perspective: telling the story of the country through the ordinary people who made history. 

Inspired by the image of a historical museum told through music, the entire program was built as a 90-minute musical with a multi-chapter structure. With the overarching ideology “The people are the roots”, Dream Studio and scriptwriter Phan Huyen Thu placed the people at the center of the story. The farmers in “Làng Tôi (My Village)”, the road-opening girls, the boatman on the Po Ko river, or the unknown mothers and soldiers became the main characters of the program - honored as the people who made history through music, stage, and performance art. 

The program was staged in a contemporary musical language with a combination of stage dialogue, vignettes, dance, and multimedia performance. The stage space continuously transformed, taking the audience through the Northern delta rice fields, the Northwest terraced fields, the Truong Son mountains and forests, or the iron bars of French colonial prisons. Each space shift not only created a visual context but also guided emotions, helping history to be felt like a living memory.

Accompanying the stage language was a new approach in music arrangement. Under the direction of Thanh Phuong and Duong Khac Linh, many revolutionary songs were rearranged in a contemporary spirit while still maintaining their emotional depth. The participation of Thanh Lam, Tung Duong, Quang Dung, Hoang Quyen, Le Hieu, Dinh Manh Ninh, OPlus, Ngu Cung, along with many young artists, created a dialogue between the past and the present.

For Dream Studio, “Qua Tang Thoi Gian No. 2 - Vietnam My Homeland” was far more than an art program commemorating National Day. Through the project, Dream Studio continued to pursue an approach where performance art becomes a storytelling medium, helping historical values to be felt through modern emotions instead of just being remembered as distant milestones of the past.
