SERIES BAI HAT YEU THICH | 2012 - 2015

For Dream Studio, the series Bai Hat Yeu Thich (Favourite Song) was not only a regular music television program but also a platform to test and develop new staging methods for the Vietnamese music stage. Throughout four years of co-creating the program, we approached each live show as an independent creative space, where music always held the central role and all stage solutions were built to serve the audience's enjoyment experience.

“Favorite Song” was a launching pad for the first performances of many talented young artists,  playing a crucial role in bringing names like Son Tung M-TP, Hoa Minzy, Vu Cat Tuong, Truc Nhan from promising faces into top stars of Vpop.

With a modest production budget, Dream Studio chose to invest in staging thinking instead of physical scale. Each song was developed as a complete stage work with its own distinct visual language, lighting, props, and movement. Instead of using repetitive performance motifs, the program continuously experimented approaches inspired by contemporary art, video art, performance art, and installation art, contributing to creating a distinct mark for Bai Hat Yeu Thich in the music television context of that time.

Dream Studio pursued the principle of placing the artist and the work at the center. For young artists, Dream Studio prioritized more time to refine performance,  perfect the staging, and build strong personas to help them gain confidence when sharing the stage with top names. On the contrary, with veteran artists or tribute programs honoring legendary musicians, the stage was maximally restrained so that emotions and musical values became the most important highlight.

Another approach developed by Dream Studio throughout the series was the combination of traditional cultural materials with contemporary stage language. Folk elements were transformed using modern visual thinking, opening up a creative foundation for many large-scale cultural and art projects that Dream Studio continued to implement in the following years.

Through the series Bai Hat Yeu Thich, Dream Studio step-by-step shaped a distinct staging language for television music stages, affirming the belief that the value of an act does not lie in the production spend or visual effects, but in the ability to highlight the emotions, story, and vitality of the music itself.
